Tipping tips for NYE

So after working in the service industry for a while, it is a blatant truth that most people don't know how to tip. It is NYE and this is the night that a lot of people in the service industry work really hard make enough money to not worry about their survival for a minute. Here is a super duper easy, anyone can do it, way to calculate a tip. First of all I refuse to believe that most of you can't do simple math, (ie: easy multiplication and understand what a decimal is) and if you say you don't you are most definitely lying or have no esteem in your skills as a human. So here we go easy easy easy:

Step one: What is your bill total? Lets say it is something easy= $10.00
Step two: Move the decimal place over 1 spot to the left= $1.00
Step three: Now you have the amount for a 10% tip woah!! Omg so hard.

Lets just do one more example to really take it home: Lets say your tab is $43.75 move the decimal place and 10% is $4.37

Now you can turn a 10% tip into a 20% tip very easily:
Do the first 3 steps then multiply your answer by 2.
Example: Tab $10.00
10% tip =$1.00
20% tip =$2.00

Lets just do it for a tab that's a little harder
Tab $34.98
10% tip = $3.49
20% tip = $6. 98

Here is a helpful hint for 20% I usually just round the change up just to make the math even easier. So I round up $3.49 to $3.50 then 20% is an even $7.00 (plus if you are giving them 20% they did a good job so rounding up is like a couple cents bonus)

I don't have an easy way for 15% because multiplying by 1.5 can be difficult so I just like to find an amount in the middle of the 10% and 20% and that usually works.

I hope this is helpful for people whether you go to a bar, restaurant or even get a haircut. Please tip the people that serve you. Most of them work very very hard and don't make much in return and please bring in the new year with generosity!

Happy 2014!

It's been a while since I posted but since my life has obviously changed I am going to be changing up the blog a bit. From now on I will be sharing more interesting science articles I read, more stories and reviews about places in Boulder or anywhere I visit and generally more life stuff. try to keep you up to date on the things I love.

Stuff I found on stumble upon

This make me laugh a lot not only because of the dorkiness of it but because I do love Myth Busters.

This video shows Adam inhaling helium then sulfur hexafluoride to demonstrate the effect of density of a gas on sound waves.
Enough with the science this video is just hilarious as it is and yes Adam you are funny.

Job hunt day 1

So I get some call this morning while I was asleep and decide to call back. Turns out its the reality company I applied to show properties at. Well they answer and I don't them I had just gotten a call from the number and the lady said 'I don't know you or where you live.' They figured out I am not one of their tenants and then they put me on hold for 12 minutes. Only tho answer the phone again and go through the same process. People keep track of your office phone calls! Sheesh! Then this rude lady is like the hours are blah blah blah blah blah and I'm like nope got school and she was like well sorry and hung up on me! Don't wanna work for those fools anyway if they can't even keep it together or talk to people politely. I am bummed though I super duper need un job.

Anyways thought I would share with you what me made last night in class:

Pan seared duck breast in a cherry gastrique sauce with asparagus and wild rice and pecan pilaf

Changes

So last night the dreaded parents called to give the worst news an unemployed 20 year old girl with a habit for slightly expensive activities could receive: THE CUT OFF! After shedding a couple tears I told myself I can either jump off a cliff or make this shit work. So I guess I am going to give it a go. I spent 3 hours on craigslist applying to every job I could find. Of course the focus is on restaurants (since I am in culinary school) but I applied to be a receptionist at a law firm and a veterinary office, an environmental research assistant, retail, serving, busing, room service delivery, I mean you get the idea. I NEED A JOB!
So this gets me thinking about what I really want for my life: I really would like to go back to school for physics or econ at some point (since I spent 4 years on those subjects) but I do love eating and cooking food. So I will try to share my passion for food, partying and all the random stuff that goes on in my life more with you guys (haha there are only 2 of you so feel special).

Aiight homies, lets hope this fucking works out.
